CB3 & MFW — their plasticity is brilliant and they hold up super well. Both lovely to throw and trim. CB3 is probably the best clay I have ever thrown with — the unglazed finish is just pure beauty.
I’ve really enjoyed using Potters Clay, especially the Midfire White which has a lovely creamy finish that shows off coloured slips beautifully. The CB3 is another favourite — it fires to this gorgeous toasty orange in oxidation that’s perfect for more earthy work. It’s also really special getting to use clay that’s made locally — there’s something grounding about working with material that comes from our own whenua. Appreciate what you’re doing for potters in Aotearoa
A recent trial of the CB3 clay — lovely texture to throw and trim. Bonus points for the beautiful blushing that occurred in the glaze firing. I'm always so drawn to pieces that possess that extra individuality.
During the 1970's I was using RMKII and GBII stoneware clays, and, E2 earthenware — fabulous historic clays from Potter's Clay Nelson. Now I am using SLAB stoneware — I love it's character on my kick wheel and power wheel. I am going to be trying their full range of clays. Tyler and Hayley have such a passion for what they are producing for NZ Potters. Right from the start they have been engaged with the clay community, we are so lucky to have them here.
